Transport and Infrastructure

From managing and maintaining the highway network. including all the associated bridges, structures and car parks, to dealing with all traffic issues including road safety and school crossing patrols, to managing the provision of bus services and school transport, not to mention maintaining all of the councils vehicle fleet, the Service and Staff of Transport and Infrastructure play a key role in keeping Denbighshire on the move.

The Department is split into 7 sections to cover all aspects of providing the above services.

Network Management

Responsible for all routine maintenance of the road network, including pavements, public rights of way (footpaths, bridleways and byways), streetworks (co-ordination and approval of all works within the highway), drainage, winter gritting and car parking, both in the councils car parks and on street.

Bridges and Structures

Responsible for maintaining all highway bridges, culverts and retaining walls, sea defences, and for managing abnormal loads.

Major Projects

This section is responsible for all major repairs and improvements to the road network and other major projects including Foryd Harbour and construction works.

Public Transport

Responsible for bus services, community transport, bus stops and shelters, timetables, school and college transport and free concessionary travel for elderly and disabled people.

Fleet Management and vehicle Maintenance

Based at the new premises on the Expressway Business Park in Bodelwyddan, this service is responsible for the management and maintenance of the county's 350+ vehicles and plant. The new location is also equipped to carry out the full range of MOT's including HGV's and Buses.

Traffic and Transportation 

Responsible for Traffic Management, (traffic regulation orders, on-street parking restrictions, traffic signs and signals). Traffic Safety(accident prevention), Road Safety (education, publicity and training). Transportation (traffic / accident data, forward planning strategy). Highway Development Control covers any new development which impacts on or creates new highways, adoption records and Local Searches.

Asset Management and Policy

Responsible for ensuring that effective and efficient policies are in place to ensure the highway network is maintained to acceptable standards in a cost effective way.

The exception is STREET LIGHTING which, together with all illuminated road signs is maintained by the Council's Environmental Services Department.
