Community Safety Partnership Structure in Denbighshire - Background
The Crime and Disorder Act 1998 makes local authorities responsible for effectively tackling crime and disorder.  This has evolved over the last ten years or so, and whereas previously a three-year audit of crime and disorder was required, now an annual assessment of crime, disorder, anti social behaviour and other behaviour adversely affecting the environment is necessary.  With partners (Police, Police Authority, Fire & Local Health Board) we are obliged to conduct the annual strategic assessment. It must identify local priorities and consult with local communities and community safety practitioners to see if they are the right priorities for Denbighshire.  The action plan has now been published. The partnership this year has attracted grants of just over £864k to help it deliver its strategy.
All funding provided for this purpose will be seen as ‘input’ that results in an ‘output’. Every output must influence the performance indicators that the authority is set in relation to:

  •  Public Service Agreed Negotiated Targets
  •  Local Priorities
  •  Substance Misuse Action Plan Wales
  •  All Wales Youth Offending Strategy.

Denbighshire has established a Community Safety Section to ensure that the authority’s commitment to community safety remains focused, and adapts to meet changes around the delivery of community safety priorities, both nationally and locally.

Community Safety is delivered by a series of partnership meetings and resulting actions. The community safety team is responsible for managing all aspects of partnership working from arranging meetings to monitoring and delivering action plans. Progress on the partnership’s performance will be seen in the regular updates of the action plan on this page.

Community Safety in Denbighshire is delivered through four main meeting regimes, Substance Misuse, Domestic Violence, Anti Social Behaviour and the Joint Action Group (Crime and the fear of Crime).
Youth offending is tackled by the Conwy and Denbighshire Youth Justice Service - a service which is supported by Denbighshire’s Community Safety Partnership.
The Strategic Assesment and resulting action plan for the period April 2008 to March 2009 is available on this page.
