The Public Health team is responsible for investigating complaints of public health and where appropriate taking enforcement action against the offenders.
We provide advice and treatment on pests such as rats, mice, cockroaches, fleas, flies, wasps, bedbugs in dwelling and business premises. A charge may be applicable to some of the treatment.
We run the Council's Dog Warden Service which provides advice and if necessary enforcement action regarding various problems associated with dogs e.g. stray dogs, dogs lost and found, barking dogs and dog fouling. Dog owners who do not pick up and take away after their dogs have fouled in a public place can be given a spot fine. We also provide advice on good dog behaviour and training.
We advice, inspect and issue licences for businesses such as Zoos, Pet Shops, Riding Establishments, Breeding of Dogs, Dangerous Wild Animals, Animal Boarding, Caravan Sites. We also deal with skin piercing registrations e.g. Tatooing, Ear Piercing, Electrolysis and Acupuncture.
We also investigate complaints of defective Septic Tank drainage systems in rural areas and where appropriate take enforcement action against owners/occupiers. In urban areas where properties have defective private drains and/or sewers, we assist in serving legal notices to have remedial works undertaken.
