Council Tax Benefit reduces the amount of council tax payable for people on a low income.

Any benefit awarded is credited directly to the council tax account.
The maximum amount of benefit is 100% of the council tax bill, and this amount will normally be received by a person on Jobseekers Allowance, Income Support or Guaranteed Pension credit.

If a person's income is higher that the basic Jobseekers Allowance the amount of benefit could be reduced.
