Education Social Work Service

Education, Pupils and Parents
Working Together

Denbighshire Education Social Work Service exists to enable every child within the county to access educational opportunities that are aimed to maximise their learning experiences and potential. The Education Service is committed to working in partnership with pupils, parents, schools and other agencies to promote these outcomes.

Introduction

Non-attendance at school, for any reason, is an important issue that must be treated seriously. However, every case is different and there is no standard path that can be followed in applying intervention strategies.

In some cases, prosecution may be used as a last resort when other intervention strategies have failed to bring about an improvement in school attendance. In other cases prosecution may be the only appropriate response, where early action could prevent problems from deteriorating.

In all cases of non-attendance it is essential to take early action. This responsibility is between parent, schools and the Education Social Work Service to make sure a child receives full time education.
