What is Affordable Housing ?

Affordable Housing is available in a variety of forms.  There are three ways to buy into or own your own property in the form of Shared Ownership, Homebuy (subject to funding) and Low Cost Home Ownership.

Our aim is to help as many local people as possible to find homes that meet their needs.  To achieve this you will need to complete the Low Cost Home Ownership Membership form and be accepted on the Low Cost Home Ownership Register. 

We want to provide the people of Denbighshire, good quality affordable housing for rent or for sale and all which are within the reach of most local people.

These homes have to remain affordable and to ensure this happens, any home which has been sold as affordable stays affordable by selling back to people on the register at an agreed percentage of the current market value or by way of shared equity scheme through a housing association (shared ownership).

What is Denbighshire Council doing to provide this?

We are helping to deliver affordable housing in Denbighshire by:

• Setting up a combined register with local Housing Associations to enable us to offer homes to as many people on the waiting list as possible.
• We’re assessing the need for housing in the future for the people of Denbighshire.
• We’re making Council owned land available for affordable housing.
• We’re using our planning powers to make sure that private housing developments dedicate a fair 
  percentage of new homes for sale or rent to local people at affordable prices
• We’re working with Local Housing Associations to increase the number of new homes for rent and for sale.
• We’re successful at obtaining Welsh Assembly Grants for additional housing.
• We’re promoting subsidies for families on low incomes to help them buy homes through various schemes.
• We’re helping the elderly community get information on low cost supported homes and building more ‘extra care’ homes for those that need support.
