10/30/2007 - A Closer Look at the Heritage Days
Vale of Clwyd Heritage Days are as popular as ever according to feedback from the hundreds of people who flocked to Denbigh and Ruthin in September.
In Denbigh, Dolbelydr and Denbigh Town Walls proved popular attractions while at the Castle the Medieval Re-enactment was enjoyed by parents and children alike. The Medieval and Beatrix Potter walks and the showing of the 1996 “Miss Potter” film were a sellout!
People who followed H M Stanley as he walked around the town of his birth found his life story interesting. One visitor said “I really enjoyed the H M Stanley walk. The actor who portrayed Stanley was superb and answered many questions off the cuff.”
In Ruthin, Nantclwyd y Dre, the Castle and the Gaol were popular attractions, while the Medieval and Crime and Punishment and tours proved a huge success.
Bizarre Furniture opened its doors and had two Bardic chairs on display – one of which had been designed by Ian Pickstock of Bizarre for this year’s National Eisteddfod in Mold (pictured).
One visitor to Ruthin commented, “This was our fifth year attending Heritage weekends. Found Nantclwyd really interesting having watched its progress over the years.”
Over 100 people completed a feedback form and were entered into a competition to win a set of local history books of the Vale of Clwyd and North Wales. The winner was Frances Jackson of Ruthin who was presented with her prize by Llinos Davies of Ruthin Library earlier this month.
The majority of visitors were local to the Vale, but we did have a good percentage of visitors from other areas of North Wales, Cheshire, Shropshire and Merseyside. Visitors indicated that they would definitely recommend this event to others and they found the information well presented, informative and interesting.
The 2008 dates are Denbigh 20 & 21 and Ruthin 27 & 28 September.
The weekends are made possible by the combined efforts of Denbigh Civic Society, Ruthin and District Civic Association, Denbigh Town Council, Ruthin Town Council and Denbighshire County Council in addition to the contribution of owners and volunteers. Funding is provided by the Heritage Lottery Fund, EU Objective 1, Cadwyn Clwyd, Ruthin Town Council and Denbigh Town Council.
