10/29/2007 - Leadership contender announced


Denbighshire County Council has announced the name of the only candidate nominated to be Leader of the authority.
The nomination is for Councillor Hugh Evans, an Independent member from Llanelidan who represents the Llanfair Dyffryn Clwyd / Gwyddelwern electoral division. 

 It was signed by:
· Jeanette Chamberlain Jones (Leader of the  Labour Group)
· Michael German (Leader of Democratic Alliance of Wales)
· John Smith (Secretary of the Independent Group)
· Dewi Owens (Leader of the Conservative Group)
· Gwyneth Kensler (Leader of the Plaid Cymru Group)
· Bob Barton (Welsh Liberal Democrat)
· Paul Marfleet (non-aligned Independent)


Councillors will attend a special meeting at County Hall, Ruthin on Tuesday, November 6 at 10am to vote on the nomination. 


The first role for any new Leader will be to appoint a new Cabinet.


The nomination comes after the decision by Denbighshire councillors to support a vote of no confidence in the previous Leader and Cabinet.
