11/12/2007 - £50k facelift for Loggerheads cafe

Denbighshire County Council has announced an exciting new partnership that will allow over £50,000 to be invested in a café at the Council-owned Loggerheads Country Park.

Building work has started and Caffi Florence is scheduled to open in mid December.

Huw Rees, Denbighshire’s Principal Countryside Officer, said: “We are delighted to be working with Florence’s, a local company , to give the café a facelift that will make sure the facilities and food on offer in the Country Park are a match for the fantastic countryside here.”

Company boss Jane Clough summarised her approach to food as using the best possible seasonal ingredients, produced as locally as possible and freshly prepared.  A range of snacks, homemade soups, traditional coffee and a range of teas, hot meals and a selection of cakes will be on offer.

Plans are already in place to link Caffi Florence to the work in the Countryside Park. Easter trails will link with Easter cake making workshops for young people in the cafe. Geology workshops will be accompanied by freshly baked rock cakes and bird watching walks will be complemented with bird cake making.

Vanessa Warrington, Denbighshire Countryside Officer, said: “We are already planning our 2008 programme and it is great to be working with Caffi Florence to not only introduce young people to their natural environment but also to allow them to learn more about good locally produced food.”
