11/20/2007 - Dog mess crackdown continues

'Clean up after your animal or you could get fined' is the message to dog owners as Denbighshire County Council steps up its campaign to tackle problems with dog mess in the Ffrith Beach area of Prestatyn.

In recent weeks a number of complaints have been received about dog mess in the area and Denbighshire County Council is stepping up patrols, with  £75 fixed penalty notice being issued to those who fail to clean up after their dogs.

Councillor Mike German, Cabinet Lead Member for Environment, said: 'We would like to thank the majority of dog owners for acting responsibly and cleaning up after their animals.

“However, there is a minority of dog owners that continue to allow their dogs to foul in public, without thinking of clearing the mess. Not only is this an anti-social form of behaviour and makes the environment look unkempt, but there are potential health risks, should people come into contact with the dog mess.

'We would strongly urge people to use dog bins provided or take their dog mess home with them. Failing to do so could see people being fined.”
