Proof of Age
If you are interested in obtaining a proof of age card make sure it is one which has received PASS accreditation. Such cards can only be issued by providers who have undergone rigorous auditing to satisfy data protection and quality control matters. Only accredited members can affix holographic security logos which will hopefully help national and local retailers recognise and accept that your card is one which is valid and genuine.
Volunteers for Underage Test Purchases
How would you like to spend an interesting and informative day out working with members of the Trading Standards Service whilst acting as a test purchaser at shops in Denbighshire?
You would receive training about what would be expected of you and at the same time gain an insight to some of the work of trading standards.
Your efforts would help go a long way towards making sure that retailers are not acting illegally by selling to underage people and help protect the interests of law abiding retailers.
Interested?
If you are aged between 13½ and 16½ and you think this is something you would like to do, discuss it with your parent/ guardian, and if they are in agreement ask them to contact using any of the contact details on the Trading Standards home page so that we can arrange for an informal chat about what would be involved.
You would not be paid for your part in any exercise you might undertake with us but in addition to receiving the gratitude of the department for your invaluable contribution towards reducing the problem of underage sales, you would be awarded a certificate which can be placed in your ‘record of achievement’ file.
Young Consumer of the Year Competition
This is an annual national competition organised by the Trading Standards Institute with the principal sponsor being the Office of Fair Trading. In the first instance, local heats are held. In Denbighshire this is done through each participating school holding a quiz, usually in the run up to Christmas. Any number of teams comprising of 4 members each can compete. Each member must be between 14 and 17 years of age (none must have turned 18 before 01 January of the following year). The team with the highest score of all participating schools will then proceed to the Welsh Regional Finals in Llandrindod Wells, usually held in March. The winning team from here will go on to represent their school at the National Finals which take place at the Trading Standards Institute Conference held in June.
Schools will be contacted automatically to invite participation however, if you belong to an organisation or youth group where members satisfy the age requirements, for example, Air Training Corp, and are interested in participating, please contact us.
