Works and Events Within the Public Highway
Denbighshire County Council is the Highway Authority and as such is responsible for authorising, co-ordinating and overseeing all works and certain other events within the Public Highway. This is to ensure that all works are carried out to the required standard, that the safety of the public is not compromised and that disruption to the travelling public is kept to the minimum.
These pages contain information for both the general public and for professional bodies such as developers and contractors on works and events where the County Council need to notified.
Anyone wishing to excavate into the Highway for any reason, including the verges and footways or to erect temporary traffic signals or undertake any work which impinges on the Public Highway must comply with ‘Traffic Management Act 2004’ ~~(see separate page)
Any items or events which could cause an obstruction or a hazard to road users, whether permanent or temporary, require a licence or permit from the Highway Authority. This applies to the road and footway as well as highway verges. We will remove unauthorised signs, etc from the highway. (See separate pages)
Builders skips, scaffolding, temporary traffic lights, memorial benches carnivals, street parties, parades, cycle races, sporting events or any other organised event which takes place on the public highway all require a licence or permit from Denbighshire County Council. All vehicle accesses across the verge or footway must be constructed to Denbighshire County Council Standards and in certain instances may require Planning Consent. (see separate page)
The design and construction of any new road or section of road must be undertaken within a formal, legal agreement and carried out to Denbighshire County Council standard (see separate page)
Carnivals, street parties and other events which take place on the public highway must be approved and there will be charges for any road closures, traffic diversions and for any signing or coning which may be necessary. (see separate page).
