Local Housing Allowance is a new way of working out new claims for Housing Benefit for tenants renting accommodation from a private landlord; it is a means tested benefit. It also affects tenants already getting Housing Benefit who move into accommodation rented from a private landlord.
Local Housing Allowance is being introduced on 7 April, 2008. If you live in council accommodation or other social housing, Local Housing Allowance will not affect you.
Though the Broad Rental Market Area known as Salop is included in the table there are currently no dwellings in Denbighshire that fall into this Broad Rental Market Area.

To work out which Local Housing Allowance rate applies to you, you will need to work out how many bedrooms you are allowed. The number of people who live with you will be used to work this out.
You are allowed one bedroom for:
every single adult or adult couple (married or unmarried)
any other adult aged 16 or over
any two children under age 10
any two children of the same sex aged under 16
any other child
Single claimants aged under 25 years of age will be entitled to the shared room rate.
Remembering that you can only receive a maximum of £15 Local Housing Allowance above your rent charge.
Also be aware that Local Housing Allowance is a means tested benefit therefore the usual calculation will apply, taking into account your income, savings and the people living with you before determining your entitlement.
