07/16/2008 - Lifeguards locate missing rowers

Denbighshire County Council's Coastal Lifeguards successfully located two missing rowers yesterday as part of a massive search in Prestatyn coordinated by HM Coastguard in Holyhead.

At approximately 1:15 pm, the Lifeguards were called to Prestatyn Sailing Club to a report of a skiffer that had been washed up with full equipment on board. The lifeguards were first on scene and assisted in the search along the Prestatyn coastline. The search involved Rhyl's two lifeboats, Rhyl's coastguard rescue team, Hoylake lifeboat and an RAF Sea King helicopter.

Working under direction of the Coastguard, the Prestatyn Patrol managed to locate one of the rowers safe and well close to the Nova Centre.  This then led to the second rower being located shortly after.

Ian Olson, Coastal Facilities Officer, said "This search is a great example of how our lifeguards work in partnership with the emergency services, ensuring that all visitors to the coastline are in safe hands."
