07/16/2008 - Council strengthens partnership with Forestry Commission Wales

Denbighshire County Council and Forestry Commission Wales have signed an official agreement to continue working on conservation and woodland management projects in the Clwydian Range Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).

The two organisations share a Warden for Moel Famau and Llangwyfan, as well as Coed Nercwys on the Flintshire side of the AONB.  Sharon Woods works as part of the AONB team based at Loggerheads Country Park and covers these sites.

Denbighshire and FC Wales jointly manage Moel Famau through this agreement, including access improvements, interpretation and conservation management - which includes Black Grouse management.

The organisations also jointly deliver an education programme at Loggerheads and Moel Famau through two Forestry Commission Education Officers - Kate Poyner and Carolyn Williams.

David Shiel , Countryside Officer -Clwydian Range Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, said: "The National Association of AONBs has a concordat with the Forestry Commission nationally and this newly signed agreement is a testament to the close working relationship that exists between the two organisation in the Clwydian Range.
Rachel Chamberlain, FC Wales Forest District Manager, said, "One of our key aims is to enable people to get the maximum benefit from their local woodlands, and this agreement will ensure that the good work we have been doing in terms of improving access, conservation and education will continue so that future generations can enjoy the woods around them. Our partnership with Denbighshire County Council is an excellent example of public bodies working together to deliver public benefit."
