08/04/2008 - Van-tastic!

Denbighshire County Council staff will have the opportunity to take a basic health and safety test on August 13 which is widely recognised by the construction industry.

Building Services has organised a mobile testing unit to come to the council's Caledfryn offices in Denbigh.  The unit houses a bank of touch-screen computers for about 70 staff to take the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) - Construction Skills Health and Safety Test throughout the day.

Nic Jones, Senior Health & Safety Surveyor with Building Services, says, "This test will enable technical staff to obtain their Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) cards which is a sort of health and safety passport.  Indeed, many contractors require such proof of a basic health and safety competence before they allow anybody to enter a construction site-works."

He added, "Once all technical staff have this CSCS qualification, we will be able to demonstrate to our contracting supply-chain that the authority is an example of best practice."

Anyone wishing to know more about this health and safety initiative should contact Nic Jones on 01824 706761 or visit the CITB website www.citb-constructionskills.co.uk
