Denbighshire County Council is celebrating being named joint winner with Flintshire County Council in the best non-agricultural stand competition at this year's Denbigh and Flint Show, held at The Green yesterday (Thursday).
The County of Culture was the theme adopted by the Council for its presence at the annual event and formed part of a co-ordinated programme of activities being staged in Denbighshire this year to promote the cultural links between the county and Liverpool, European Capital of Culture 08.
Visitors to the marquee sampled musical interludes from harpist Nia Parry of Tremeirchion, a trio from Ensemble Cymru performed classical music to promote the North Wales International Music Festival and storyteller Cath Aran entertained youngsters with her unique story-telling sessions.
The heather and hillforts team was present to promote the work being done to protect the heather moorlands and the hillforts of the Clwydian Range and Llantysilio Mountain.
Exhibitions promoted attractions such as Plas Newydd (Llangollen) and Nantclwyd y Dre (Ruthin), as well as showcasing the recently opened redevelopment of Ruthin Craft Centre.
Denbighshire's Countryside Services created a roundhouse outside the marquee and promoted their conservation work whilst Meifod Wood Products, which forms part of Denbighshire's Learning Disabilities Service promoted their wooden products.
The Council also took the opportunity of asking show-goers about their views on environmental issues and about the corporate priorities.
Councillor David Thomas, Cabinet Lead Member for Regeneration, said: "We were delighted to be awarded joint winners of the best non-agricultural stand at the show.
“The Council has offered financial backing and practical support to the show organisers over recent months and we were delighted to see so many people supporting the show, despite the rain and muddy conditions.
"Many people took the opportunity to visit our marquee and learn more about the cultural attractions and activities and we hope it will have given show-goers an appetite to sample some of the county’s cultural delights.”
