The free Fun in the Sun event attracted a record attendance with an estimated 20,000 people enjoying the two day event held on Rhyl Promenade.
The event, which took place on Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday at the Events Arena, Rhyl, saw thousands flocking to see stars such as X-factor finalists Same Difference, Hoop la la from Britain’s Got Talent and Rhyl’s very own James Stone.
Unavoidable last minute filming commitments by some of the Coronation Street stars meant that the schedule had to be changed at the eleventh hour. However, Michael Starke of Coronation Street, Brookside and The Royal alongside Gerald McCarthy (Kris Fisher) of Hollyoaks kept the audience entertained.
Festival and Events Manager Sian Davies said : “It has been and enormous success with fine weather helping set record attendance. There were many highlights over the weekend including the guest appearance of Tom Lister (Carl King of Emmerdale) who closed the show with his rendition of Josh Groban’s “You raise me Up”!
Councillor David Thomas, Cabinet Lead Member for Regeneration, said: “As always, the Fun in the Sun event attracted people in their thousands and this event has now become established in the summer calendar for many visitors and local residents keen to see some of their favourite stars from the world of music and television perform.
“The organisers put in a tremendous amount of effort into putting on a superb show and they really did not disappoint.”
