08/27/2008 - Denbighshire gets tough on waste

Denbighshire’s Waste Enforcement team has successfully prosecuted a Prestatyn resident for two offences of dumping household rubbish in a public place.
Martin Gibson of Nursery Close, Prestatyn pleaded guilty to the two charges of dumping household rubbish in sealed bags next to a public litter bin and was fined a total of £365.
Councillor Eryl Williams, Cabinet Lead Member for Environment, said: “Denbighshire takes the matter of environmental crime seriously.   Dumping rubbish has a detrimental effect on the local environment.  Not only does it make our streets look unkempt and a blight on the landscape but it also affects the quality of life for local residents.
“The majority of Denbighshire residents dispose of their household waste via the x2 scheme with no problems and this has contributed to a huge increase in recycling in the county.
“We have taken action and we will continue to take action against a minority of individuals who continue to ignore repeated warnings issued by the Council about dumping rubbish in public.
“Everyone has a responsibility for tackling environmental crime and we have to take a tough stance, to show that environmental crime is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated in Denbighshire.”
