Denbighshire Empty Homes Project

Denbighshire’s Empty Homes Project is up and running with the aim of turning vacant properties into quality, affordable accommodation.
Recognising the wasted resource of the estimated 1,800 within the county at a time when affordable housing is in short supply, the Local Authority and North Wales Housing Association have joined in an innovative partnership to employ an Empty Homes Officer.
Both organisations are committed to making the partnership a success. If so, this will become a long term project and could be used as a template for other local authorities to follow.
Now in post the Empty Homes Officer will establish a database of vacant properties, develop a strategy for bringing them back into use and work with owners and local communities to harness the development opportunities they offer.
This work will not only address the detrimental negative impact that empty homes can have on the appearance of an area but also aim to increase the supply of affordable housing through leasing or purchasing arrangements.
