Online Safety, Risks And Balance: Minority Ethnic Youth In The Digital World

1 June: 1pm to 2:30pm

This forum will explore how minority ethnic young people experience and navigate the digital world. As social media, online gaming and digital platforms continue to shape everyday life, the session will examine both the opportunities and risks present in online spaces. The discussion will centre the lived experiences of minority ethnic youth, highlighting challenges such as racism, misinformation and online safety, while also exploring practical ways to create safer and more inclusive digital environments.

Reasonable Workplace Adjustments for Neurodivergent People

2 June: 1pm to 2:30pm

This session is delivered by a neurodivergent individual who’s learnt what sort of adaptations make her work at Welsh Government easier. It raises awareness and gives an overview of how Reasonable/Workplace Adjustments can support a diverse range of individuals. It encourages honest conversations about being a disabled person and people’s general needs, normalising adjustments as good practice.

The session is suitable for anyone – neurodivergent individuals, neurotypical individuals, employers, colleagues or anyone interested in learning more about this area. It offers strategies for a diverse range of people around jobs where individuals are currently working in an office or from home and alongside a computer.

The session will last 1.5 hours which includes a short break and time for questions.

This session seeks to debunk myths around how platforms manage hate, explore the impact of online harms such as hate, takes a trauma informed approach to disclosures of hate experiences from staff, and shares practical advice on how to tackle online hate.

Race Equality and Inclusion

11 June: 10am to 12pm (midday)

The training will explore racism and the impact on society. The various ways racism manifests including examples of racial microaggressions and language including the history of the more common words associated with racism. The lived experiences of the facilitators will be shared with examples provided to compliment the learning. Themes covered will include systemic racism, the influences that shape behaviour and the effect this has on communities. There will be opportunities to consider solutions towards building an anti-racist society and allyship.

Sexual Harassment Prevention – Employee Workshop

18 June: 10am to 11:30am

This highly-interactive session provides an in-depth exploration of sexual harassment – that is understanding what constitutes sexual harassment, how to recognise and tackle sexual harassment, and how to handle complaints of sexual harassment effectively. In the employee-focused sessions, learning outcomes will centre around equipping attendees with the knowledge and confidence to speak out against inappropriate behaviour, and understand how and when to intervene as active bystanders if witnessing an incident of harassment.

22 June: 11am to 1pm

The event aims to raise awareness of the LGBTQIA+ community and what support is available if they are a victim of Hate Crime or Incident. The Wales Hate Support Centre will be joined by representatives from a local Community Cohesion Team, the Police and a charity organisation which supports the LGBTQIA+ community. This event is aimed at professionals living/working in Wales.

Hate happens and it’s clear that it’s hurtful for communities in Wales. It Starts With Us workshop explores what it means to be an ally and an active bystander, looking at safe interventions and acts that we can all undertake.

Group 3 – Ask and Act Champions

29 June: 9:30am to 4:30pm

Following the roll-out of Group 2 Ask and Act training to frontline professionals across North Wales, the VAWDASV (Violence Against Women, Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence) Regional Team have launched the Group 3 Ask and Act Champions training in partnership with Stori and the Domestic Abuse Safety Unit.

Group 3 Ask and Act Champions training is aimed at professionals in roles which require them to do more than "Ask and Act" and for those who perform a "Champion" role.

This 1 day training course will enable professionals to achieve the following:

  • Support colleagues as they make difficult decisions in relation to clients or service users affected by violence against women, domestic abuse and sexual violence
  • Help offer services to all family members affected by violence against women, domestic abuse and sexual violence
  • Act as a VAWDASV champion and point of contact for Ask and Act enquiries within their organisation.

Understanding, recognising and preventing child grooming: A guide for practitioners

2 July: 9:30am to 12:30pm

This course is designed to equip participants with an understanding of the issues facing organisations and staff groups in being aware of, and preventing, the possibility of sexual abuse or inappropriate behaviour by staff and volunteers. It is relevant to all those working with children. This training aims to support some of the recommendations set out in the Child practice review "Our bravery brought justice", specifically those relating to how signs and indicators of grooming behaviour should be identified, responded to and reported on.

An online course equipping professionals who work with children to understand grooming, identify warning signs in adults and children, and apply their organisation's safeguarding procedures to prevent and respond to abuse.

This is a 3-hour online course; it will cover:

  • Defining grooming: What it is and why it matters
  • How grooming happens: In person and online
  • Understanding offenders: Tactics and strategies used in the grooming process
  • Recognising signs in adults: Responding to low level concerns
  • Recognising signs a child is being groomed: How to prevent and respond
  • What your organisation should do: To prevention, identify and respond

A half day course to; increase confidence and understanding of early identification, making a targeted enquiry and knowing referral pathways. This is a mandatory course for anyone working in a front facing role.

Aims and objectives:

  • recognise the signs and symptoms of violence against women, domestic abuse and sexual violence
  • understand the purpose of and demonstrate an ability to undertake targeted enquiry
  • demonstrate knowledge around data protection and the duty of confidentiality
  • understand the purpose of risk identification in relation to some forms of violence against women, domestic abuse and sexual violence
  • be able to implement the targeted enquiry care pathway

We partnered with GMB, UNITE, and UNISON to secure funding from the Wales Union Learning Fund (WULF) to enhance employee learning and skills. This collaboration promotes broader training participation, supports tailored workplace training, and fosters employee development, accessible to all, regardless of union membership.
