Culture and creativity at your library

The Welsh Language

We have a great range of Welsh language books, e-books and audiobooks for you to enjoy. You can also join and participate in the Welsh reading groups who meet at our libraries. Your local library also plays host to Welsh events such as book launches and author visits throughout the year. For more information, please contact your local library.

As a Welsh learner your library has everything you could possibly need, including the staff! We love hearing the Welsh language in our libraries, and are always happy to provide a bilingual service, help and advice on learning the language, or just a friendly chat in Welsh.

Family history

Use Denbighshire libraries to explore your history through Ancestry, the family history mapping software. Using only your library card and PIN, you can access Ancestry free of charge in the library to investigate your family background and hear the stories of generations past. Some libraries have family history clubs you can join.

Local history

Wales and Denbighshire have a rich history, and your local library is here to help you explore it.

Want to know more about the history of your local area? Each of our libraries has a section dedicated to local history books, allowing you a peek into the past. Libraries also host meetings by local history groups, book launches and talks.

Culture and community

Your library is a portal to attractions, events and activities happening in your area. From local groups and societies meeting in the library, to our community noticeboards and ‘What’s on’ folders, and online access, you can find all the information you need to celebrate your community. Many of our libraries are designated Tourism Information Points, providing information on local attractions, including the scenic town trail maps, and many of our staff are trained as Tourism Ambassadors.

A space in your local library can be the perfect venue for your next community event, group meeting or relaxing afternoon. We have private rooms that you can hire, and versatile spaces for you to use.

Working remotely? Increase your productivity by paying us a visit! We have quiet areas with comfortable seating, free Wi-Fi throughout our libraries as well as printing and photocopying services available for a small charge.

Music library

We have a large collection of printed music available for loan to orchestras, choir groups and individuals. This includes vocal scores of musicals, opera scores, individual instrumental titles, librettos and more.

You can search for printed music in the library catalogue. Some of the collection is not on the catalogue, so if you can’t find what you need, contact us online or call us on 01824 705274 to see if we have it.

If a particular title is not in stock or you need more copies, we can usually get them via the national network of inter–library loans.

How much does it cost?

  • Single copies for individuals for study: free
  • Multiple copies for organisations: £100 +VAT for a hire period of 4 months
  • Orchestral sets: £10 additional hire charge for each additional month

If you want to renew any items after the initial 3 month loan period, then these charges will be due again.
