The Pavilion Theatre in Rhyl operated by Denbighshire Leisure LTD has undergone a green energy refit project on the site to help reduce the attraction’s carbon footprint.
Denbighshire County Council declared a Climate Change and Ecological Emergency in July 2019 and has since committed to becoming a Net Carbon Zero and Ecologically Positive Council by 2030.
This includes reducing emissions from the building estate, which is responsible for over 60 percent of the Council’s direct carbon emissions.
The Pavilion Theatre project is the largest the Council has undertaken to date to help reduce carbon emissions.
Work undertaken includes the installation of a new heating system, ventilation system, modified gas connection, introduction of a new control system set up, solar panels added to the roof and LED lighting introduced in the building.
The completion of the green project is expected to reduce emissions at the site by around 203 tonnes of CO2 per year.
Cllr Barry Mellor, Lead Member for Environment and Transport, said: “The Council is continuing to work on ensuring that our carbon footprint is reduced across the county by looking at the buildings we own and initiating projects to help cut emissions. As well as looking at our estate, we are also working on projects to support the reduction of carbon output from our fleet, private vehicles and also boosting biodiversity resilience across the county.
“I am proud to see the completion of such a large project in partnership with Denbighshire Leisure LTD, which is of a huge benefit for reducing carbon at the Pavilion and helping with energy costs, whilst at the same time improving the facilities for both staff and public visitors to the site.”
