Asbestos is the name given to a group of naturally occurring minerals used in products such as building materials and vehicle brakes, to resist heat and corrosion.
Why is it dangerous?
Asbestos can cause four serious diseases; Mesothelioma, Asbestos-related lung cancer, Asbestosis and Pleural thickening. These diseases will not affect you immediately but can develop over time. Once diagnosed, it is often too late to do anything.
Will the council remove asbestos?
No. If Asbestos needs to be removed, we recommend that you contact a specialist company and/or a licensed contractor to carry out the survey and removal / disposal of asbestos.
Can I take asbestos waste to a recycling centre?
We can accept household asbestos waste e.g. fire blankets, old ironing boards etc at Marsh Road, Rhyl but large amounts will not be taken. We accept up to three bags or packages of bonded asbestos sheet from Denbighshire householders per month, but items must be double wrapped or double bagged with heavy-duty polythene.
We suggest you speak to one of the staff upon arrival about where the asbestos skips are located. Residents will be asked to provide their name and address when disposing of asbestos waste.
