What we offer

People on beach

At Denbighshire County Council, we believe the hard work and commitment of our staff should be properly rewarded.

We offer a range of benefits to help our employees achieve a work/life balance, develop in their career, and support them in their work.

Pay

The pay and grading structure developed by the council is designed to make sure our employees are recognised and rewarded for the contribution they make.

The full details of the pay and grading structure can be found on our Pay and Benefits web pages.

Annual Leave

For NJC employees, we have a generous annual leave entitlement starting at 26 days (plus bank holidays) rising with length of service to a total of 32 days, so the longer you work for us, the more annual leave you are allocated.

We also offer the opportunity for employees to purchase up to 40 working days' additional annual leave per year.

NJC Chief Officers are entitled to 32 days leave.

Flexible working arrangements

Full time working hours at Denbighshire are 37 per week. We know that work performance is better if our employees are able to have flexibility in their working arrangements. We believe balancing work and life demands enables employees to better meet business needs and to improve efficiency and effectiveness.

The Council offers a variety of different working arrangements for many of its roles. Our working arrangements include homeworking, office/site working and a network of spaces for team collaboration.

We also offer a flexi- time scheme for a number of positions within the Council, the opportunity to job share and work part time along with a range of other policies to support flexibility.

Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS)

Our employees will automatically join the Local Government Pension Scheme (LPGS), unless they decide to opt out. All members with more than 2 years’ membership become entitled to pension benefits. The LGPS is very secure as it is set out in law, and provides employees with:

  • A secure pension for life
  • Tax-free cash - You have the option to exchange part of your pension for some tax free cash on your retirement
  • Peace of mind - Immediate life cover and a pension for your husband, wife, civil partner or nominated co-habiting partner and children, in the event of your death and, if you ever become seriously ill, you could receive immediate ill-health benefits
  • Early retirement - You can choose to retire from age 55 and receive your benefits immediately, although they may be reduced for early payment
  • Flexible retirement - If you reduce your hours or move to a less senior position at or after age 55 you may be able to draw some or all of the benefits you have built up
