Prestatyn High Street: public realm improvements project

We are looking at options to improve the public realm (visible areas) in Prestatyn High Street. Tell us what you'd like to see.

The project has been funded by the UK Government under round 3 of Levelling Up funding. The project will form part of Denbighshire's Pride of Place and Natural Environment.

What are we doing?

As part of the UK Government's Pride of Place and Natural Environment project, Denbighshire County Council has been awarded funding to carry out a number of projects that will help to improve the look and feel of some key areas of Denbighshire.

One of these areas is the public realm (visible space) in Prestatyn High Street.

Why are we doing this?

Prestatyn is Denbighshire's second-largest town. With a long sandy beach and good access to major transport routes, it is also a very popular tourist destination.

We would like to understand more about people's travelling and spending habits when visiting Prestatyn town centre. We hope to encourage and support people to consider active travel, and to choose independent retailers and outlets when shopping or visiting cafés, pubs and restaurants.

What do we want to know?

We would like to know what you think.

We have scope to carry out small improvements to Prestatyn High Street in the following key areas:

  • Improving the paving on the ground
  • Improving the street lighting
  • Making footpaths/pavements wider
  • Planting trees, shrubs and flowers
  • Adding street furniture such as seating, bike racks and litter bins
  • Directional and wayfinding signage, so people know what's where

What difference will it make?

We hope that by understanding what is important to people who live in, work in or visit Prestatyn regularly that we will be able to design a modest improvement scheme which will help to make the High Street more appealing and encourage people to spend more time there.

How can you get involved?

We will be running two separate engagement activities:

  • We are hoping to engage with residents and visitors between 14 April and 11 May 2025
  • We are hoping to engage with High Street businesses during the week commencing 19 May 2025

Resident and visitor engagement

If you are a resident in or a visitor to Prestatyn we would be grateful if you could complete the following survey:

Prestatyn High Street improvements: residents and visitors survey (external website)

Paper copies of the survey can be collected from and returned to:

Prestatyn Library and One Stop Shop,
King's Avenue,
Prestatyn
LL19 9AA

The closing deadline for all responses is: Sunday 11 May 2025

High Street businesses engagement

If you own or manage a business on Prestatyn High Street, you can use the following form to sign up for updates from us:

Prestatyn High Street improvements: High Street business registration form (external website)

Our intention is to find out what residents and visitors think, and then we will aim to carry out engagement with businesses in the week commencing 19 May 2025, where you will be able to see the results of the residents and visitors survey and provide your own feedback.
